Spotify, the (Western) world's most popular streaming service hardly
needs an introduction. The music streaming service is available in 92
countries mainly in Europe, North and South America and has
managed to amass more than 299m monthly active users and 138m
paying subscribers.
Spotify offers an ad-funded semi-interactive streaming service as
well as an on-demand subscription streaming service. The service
offers a wide variety of playlists, both curated by humans as well as
by smart algorithms.

Spotify

In June 2015 iTunes launched its subscription music streaming
service "Apple Music". Apple Music is available in the same
territories as the iTunes Store and is currently the most successful
subscription streaming service in the US, ahead of Spotify. Aside
from its vast catalog, the service offers curated playlists and user-specific listening recommendations to its subscribers. Apple Music
allows unlimited on-demand streaming and subscriptions are
available from 9.99 USD/EURO/GBP per month in the US, EU, and
the UK. Apple does not operate an advertisement-funded streaming
service, like for example Deezer or Spotify, which allows users to
access music for free.

* YouTube (Content ID Agreement):
Google-owned YouTube is a video-sharing website on which users
can upload, view and share (music) videos. Most of the content on
YouTube is user-generated, but professional media companies and
content owners also offer their content on the site. By delivering
your content to YouTube via the FUGA Aggregation Service labels
are able to monetize each and every view of a video on YouTube
containing their content or a snippet thereof. Labels delivering
content directly to YouTube will have access to YouTube’s Content
Management System (“CMS”), allowing them to manage their
content on YouTube. All content delivered to YouTube via FUGA’s
Aggregation Service will automatically become part of YouTube’s
audio-fingerprinting system/ CMS system, which automatically
detects and provides the option to monetize videos that contain the
label’s content. FUGA Aggregation Services is an Official YouTube
Partner. Further to this, aggregation clients are also able to have their channels added to FUGA's YouTube Multi Channel Network
(MCN), so videos are able to be claimed as music videos, which are
monetized at a slightly higher rate than standard UGC.

Amazon Music

US-based but India-focussed ad-funded and subscription streaming
service has acquired a total of 104 million active users. The service is
particularly popular among users in India and Indian expats across the
globe.
JioSaavn features a catalog of more than 45 million tracks and is
available in 15 different languages. JioSaavn’s core features include
various hand-curated radio stations, phonetic search, dynamic bitrate
streaming and an extensive blog dedicated to artists and new
releases.

The owner of the JioSaavn service is Reliance Industries Limited (RIL). RIL
is the second largest company in India and owns businesses in
energy, petrochemicals, textiles, retail, and telecommunications. The
telco part of the company is called Jio. Jio has made it its mission to
make the internet available to as many people as possible, which
resulted in the lowest-priced data plans in the world. In 2018 RIL
announced a strategic transaction between Jio and Saavn to form a
large platform for music, media, and artists. The 270 million
subscribers of Jio are able to start a JioSaavn subscription with an
extended free trial of 3 months. This gives JioSaavn the possibility to
grow into the largest music service in India.

JioSaavn

France-based Deezer is one of the biggest and most
globally-available streaming services in the world. Deezer was
launched in 2007 and is currently live in over 185 countries and has
approximately 16 million monthly active users, and 7 million paid
subscribers as of February 2020. With 7m paying users and 16m
monthly active users, Deezer seems to have an exceptionally high
paid-freemium ratio. The service is available for Web, Android, iOS,
Windows Mobile, BlackBerry OS, and Windows, MacOS.

Deezer

Napster, formerly known as Rhapsody, is one of the most
long-standing streaming services in the world. Rhapsody launched in
2001 as Listen.com. It was the first streaming subscription service
that allowed caching in the US. Napster is available in 34 countries
and is one of the few subscription streaming platforms that is turning
a profit. Napster only offers paid subscription tiers and no freemium
ad-supported tier.
Besides operating its own ‘Napster’ music service, the company also
operates various B2C as well as B2B white labelled versions of its
platform on behalf of third parties (called “Powered by Napster”).
Napster for example operates white labelled services for mobile
providers (BASE, 0@, yourfone etc), car brands (BMW, Audi, Porsche,
Mini, and Bentley) and even supermarkets like Aldi’s life Musik and
Hofer Life music.
